Description

The description of the event.

This brief training will provide Montana Librarians with an overview of what to expect with the 2020 Census and how changes in how responses are collected could cause additional demand for library's public computers and WiFi.  Montana's communities and public institutions, including libraries, will benefit from a complete count, and this session introduces some ideas for appropriate roles of public libraries in promoting a complete count for their community.

Outcomes for this training:

  • librarians will be able to articulate why a complete count benefits Montanans and Montana communities, and they will be able to  list some of the known barriers to getting a complete count in Montana
  • librarians will participate in appropriate activities promoting a complete count in their community
  • librarians will  be able to assist patrons in a professional and ethical manner to submit their census forms

The Montana State Library will distribute a Census 2020 in Montana Libraries tool kit at this event.  The toolkit includes:

  • bookmarks to share with patrons
  • a manual with basic information, program ideas, and reprintable materials
  • a poster promoting the Census 2020 Montana Complete Count

This training is free and open for anyone to attend.  Public, tribal, and school librarians are especially encouraged.  The Montana State Library will offer this training at other venues across Montana in Fall 2019 and will conduct webinars on the topic over the winter.  Check the ASPeN Events calendar for all scheduled upcoming events.

This training is FREE.
