In this 4 hour session we will learn about the six major duties of a library board; the role of the director, board, and local government; the Montana Library Scene – what is MLA? MSL? And what exactly are federations? We’ll also spend time developing our advocacy skills and exploring ways to increase funding for the library. 

Desired learning outcomes: 

  • Attendees learn about the six major duties of a library board 

  • Attendees learn about and discuss funding options for the library along with pros and cons of each 

  • Attendees learn about advocacy and its importance 

  • Attendees understand the role of different positions and agencies involved in public library work
