Allyne Ellis, children's librarians at the Billings Public Library, will present a report of her work to update the collection using best practices for promoting diversity and repesenting cultures and groups respectfully.  Librarians who attend this webinar will be able to: 

  • use valid criteria for assessing their children's collection and for weeding out books that do not meet minimum standards for being inclusive and avoiding cultural stereotypes;
  • recognize their own innate bias and build their own cultural humility;
  •  state the advantages of developing a more inclusive collection to better serve all patron;
  • immediately apply practical tips for improving their collections to better represent cultural and human diversity.
