Description

Description

The description of the event.

This presentation is designed to help a librarian prepare a one-page disaster response plan for their library and to beging to consider ways that the library can help a community become more resilient folllowing a disaster.  As librarians have learned from the ongoing COVID response, disasters force considerations and adjustments to library practices that reveal vulnerabilities and opportunities.  The very best time to plan for an upcoming disaster response is yesterday, and the next best time is right now.

This session is directed primarily at public and tribal library facilities but has information that is transferable to school, academic, and special libraries.  Participants will:

  • identify likely disasters that will impact library services
  • consider the role of the library in response and recovery during and after a disaster
  • assess the preparedness of the library staff and facilities
  • take steps to be better prepared both in response and recovery
