The winner of the 2024 Orbis Pictus Award for Outstanding Children’s Nonfiction shares his insights into what it takes to turn young people into lifelong writers. He’ll share the influence of books and teachers on his own path, as well as the writing routines that helped spark his career. Along the way, he’ll offer strategies for building writers from the ground up.
Sneed B. Collard III is the author of almost 100 books for children and adults, including the acclaimed adult memoir Warblers and Woodpeckers: A Father-Son Big Year of Birding and the beloved Montana picture book, Shep: Our Most Loyal Dog. His books have won numerous awards including the 2024 Orbis Pictus Award (Border Crossings) and are regular selections of Junior Library Guild and other acclaimed lists. He regularly contributes to Big Sky Journal, Bird Watcher’s Digest, and Montana Outdoors magazines, and is a popular speaker at schools, conferences, and birding events.
