This session will recount one academic library’s response to the rapid emergence of generative Artificial Intelligence (A.I.), focusing on workshops developed for both students and instructors. We will discuss our use of backwards design in developing lesson plans, insights from assessment data, and the concept of failure in the technocene.

Natalie Bond is the Government Information Librarian and Head of Information and User Services at the University of Montana’s Maureen & Mike Mansfield Library. Recent projects have centered on AI literacy and the responsible use of AI in libraries and archives, and she is currently working on pedagogical adaptations for fostering ecoliteracy in information literacy classrooms.

Karli Cotton (she/her) is the Online Learning Librarian at the University of Montana’s Maureen & Mike Mansfield Library. Recent interests include AI literacy instruction, responsible use of AI for university libraries, and active learning and gamification techniques in information literacy instruction.
