Dani Hess and Sarah Widger
Librarians are tireless champions for the work that they do and the communities they serve - and it's time to build a bigger tent. An expansion of MLA's longstanding Government Affairs Committee, The Montanans For Libraries Coalition connects passionate allies from across sectors to give a voice to Montana libraries in city council chambers, state capitol, and the halls of congress. Beyond librarians and library professionals, the Coalition brings together patrons, educators, local business owners, and community leaders to mobilize support for library funding and policy. Whether you're a seasoned advocate or first timer, this session will have all you need to know about joining the coalition and engaging in the 2027 legislature.
Dani Hess is a lobbyist at Central House Strategies and is based in Helena. Driven by curiosity and connection, Dani is unreasonably enthusiastic about housing, tax, and economic policy in Montana. At Central House Strategies she works with clients and facilitates coalitions to shape policy supporting local decision making and sustaining essential community-based services for Montanans. Raised on the trails around Helena and the coast of south-central Alaska, Dani loves going for long bike rides and bringing an outrageous number of physical books on a weekend camping trip.
Sarah Widger is the immediate Past President of MLA. She is the Head of Public Services at Bozeman Public Library.
