Kathleen McPherson & Kate Holloway
Discover practical, approachable strategies for offering dynamic STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) programs for tweens (8-11) and teens (12-18) in your public library. This session will explore both the how and the why of STEAM programming, showcasing adaptable activities suitable for staff-led sessions as well as passive, self-directed options. Attendees will leave with fresh ideas, greater confidence, and the tools to create meaningful, hands-on learning experiences that spark curiosity, build skills, and inspire young people to explore, create, and learn.
Kathleen McPherson has been joyfully employed at the Bozeman Public Library in the Youth Services Department for over 16 years. She has her School Library Media Certificate and a BS in Elementary Education from MSU-Bozeman. She provides weekly programming three times a week at the Library that includes a preschooler/toddler storytime and Tween Art Studio. She is also passionate about designing and implementing a passive program, Big Kid STEAM Play, for kids 5+. Outside of the Library, you can find her in her home art studio, spending time with friends and family or outside immersed in nature.
Kate Holloway is the Teen Services librarian at Bozeman Public Library. After working almost 19 years in various library departments, she thinks Teen Services is the most fun and dynamic...and makes the best use of googly eyes. Outside the library, Kate enjoys playing D&D with friends, taking road trips to possibly haunted places, and watching way too many baking shows.
