Susie Mcintyre, Mark Wetherington, Mitch Grady, and Elizabeth Jonkel

There is continuous tension in libraries to justify our value. To what extent do we mislead ourselves about our accomplishments? This interactive workshop will provide a safe space for participants to honestly discuss failure and build skills to communicate about and learn from things that don’t work.

Susie McIntyre a fourth generation Montanan. She was born and raised in Great Falls and worked at the Great Falls Public Library for 20 years, the last 6 years in the position of Library Director. Since January of 2026, she has served as an academic librarian at Great Falls College MSU. Susie is passionate about family, friends, social justice, and joy. Libraries and access to information are a cornerstone of democracy and her life.

Mark Wetherington has been director of the Bitterroot Public Library in Hamilton, MT since 2014. He started working in libraries as a college sophomore in 2006 and, other than seasonal work for the US Forest Service, has worked in them ever since. He received his MLIS from the University of Kentucky in 2012. Mark is also an avid outdoor recreationist, volunteer fire lookout, and a co-author of Backpacking Washington, 3rd edition, by Wilderness Press.

Mitch Grady has been: Director of the Livingston-Park County Public Library since June 2015; a father since February 2008 (and then reaffirmed in December 2013); working in Montana public libraries since late November 2006; married since August 2001; enjoying subjective tinnitus since May 1992; very tired since November 1988; reading Disney duck comics since about 1978.

Elizabeth Jonkel is the Assistant Director at Missoula Public Library, a position she has held since 2009. She is a past president of the Montana Library Association and served as chair of the Montana Shared Catalog Partner Sharing Group and the Western representative for large libraries on the Executive Committee. Elizabeth is an avid D&D fan and a lover of all things cat.
