Miles Allison and Clare Clum
Give damaged books a second life! Learn to spot common issues, practice simple to intermediate repairs, and use quick, consistent techniques that keep materials circulating. This hands-on session highlights practical, in-house mending (not conservation) so staff gain the skills and confidence to repair items and return them to shelves quickly.
Miles Allison has worked at the Lewis & Clark Library since 2019 and has been involved in book repair for nearly all that time. Starting with zero training and learning from YouTube and various print source materials, Miles focuses on mending for circulation with occasional dabbling in conservation and archival work.
Clare Clum has been part of the Lewis & Clark Library team for 12 years. Although she is relatively new to the world of book mending, she brings extensive experience as a metalsmith, where she specializes in creating and repairing jewelry. She enjoys applying her creative problem-solving skills to the art of book repair.
