Abstract:

This is the Montana Incorporated Cities and Towns geodatabase that was on the Montana State Library web site at the end of 2012. The database contains the incorporated place boundaries and tables with contact information and demographic information for the places.

The boundary files were created based on the best available source data received the Montana Department of Transportation's Fuel Tax Layer and County Government's GIS Programs. Counties participating are the following: Cascade, Flathead, Gallatin, Lake, Lewis and Clark, Missoula, and Yellowstone; Cities participating: City of Red Lodge. The Fuel Tax layer was adjusted to the most current version of the Montana GCDB and Cadastral Parcels.

Digital data used as a base layer to adjust these boundary files were the best available source at the time: Cadastral (parcel lines), Geographic Coordination Data Base (GCDB), National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP) Imagery, US Census Designated Places.

2000 US Census Population data was taken from the 2009 Directory of Montana Municipal Officials published by the Montana League of Cities and Towns (208 N. Montana Avenue Suite 201 Helena, MT 59624).

The information found in the CITY_TOWN_INFO_2009 was taken from excel spreadsheets provided by the Montana League of Cities and Towns, August 2009.
