Abstract:
These are a series of 1,080 Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) of Montana areas produced by the Federal Emergency Management Agency between approximately 1975 and 2002.

The files are scanned images of paper maps and they have not been georeferenced. The data are in MrSID-compressed format.

The data are accompanied by an Esri shapefile showing the area covered by each rural map. Some of the maps are of incorporated areas and their extents are not shown in the index shapefile. Many areas of Montana are not covered by maps because no data were available or because they were deemed to not include any floodplains in populated areas.

No maps were included for the rural areas of Pondera, Liberty, Toole, Chouteau, Daniels, Sheridan, Petroleum, Judith Basin, Fergus, Meagher, Musselshell, Beaverhead, Madison, or Carter counties.

The data were available through the Montana State Library Digital Atlas application between 2002 and 2015. Patrons could click on the index map to bring up a link to the MrSID image of the area of the index map that was clicked.
