Primary |
Primary Channel
This is the main channel thread. It tends to carry the majority of water in split flow situations. Water should be present in the photograph, and year round. Line is continuous throughout the study area. |
Secondary |
Secondary Channel
Secondary channels should show water in the source photography and should carry water year round. These channels carry less water than the Primary channel. |
Anabranching |
Anabranching Channel
Anabranching channels are similar in size and character to Secondary channels. The distinguishing feature is that it is separated from the Primary Channel by large island for a significant distance. Island width should be at least 3.5 times the width of the Primary Channel. These channels carry water year round. |
Overflow |
Overflow Channel
Overflow channels should either be dry or have discontinuous water showing in the source photography. They tend to be active during runoff or flood conditions. |
