The data are archived in Esri file geodatabase format and in Esri shapefile format. These data represent Montana's School District boundaries. There are separate data sets for Elementary, Secondary, and Unified (K-12) school districts. All Montana County School District Superintendents were contacted for legal descriptions/source documents. Montana law requires all County School District Superintendent to have these documents available for the public. The boundary files were created based on the best available source data received from the counties: Legal Descriptions, County GIS Files, County Source Maps, or where data sources were not available the Montana Cadastral GIS Data was used.
