Survey was taken from rafts along the entire length of the river, and from the ground wherever the crews could get permission to enter the property. Only about half of the property along the river was entered. Banks are included twice if lateral cutting was observed by both the ground crews and the raft crews. Where there is double coverage, differences in the presence and extent of lateral cutting reflect the effects of different observers, vantage points, and sampling conditions. Potential accuracy of the 1:4800 scale field maps is 2 meters, but the tailings extents were drawn on the maps by ocular estimation of the fieldworkers.
