Montana Managed Areas Map Service includes The Nature Conservancy (TNC) Preserves, USFWS National Wildlife Refuges and Wilderness, USDA Forest Service Special Interest Management Areas, Wilderness ALPS/WSA, Wild and Scenic Rivers, Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Outstanding Natural Areas, Wild and Scenic Rivers, Wilderness Areas and Wilderness Study Areas, Montana DNRC State Forest, Montana Private Conservation Lands, Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks State Parks and Wildlife Management Areas. This service is now within the Administrative Boundaries Framework service: https://gisservice.mt.gov/arcgis/rest/services/msdi_administrative_boundaries_map_v1/MapServer
For the mapping or analysis of Montana Managed Areas.
Montana Managed Areas dataset originated from the June 1998 version of the US Geological Survey (USGS) National Gap Analysis Program (GAP) Project "Protected Areas Data" (PAD) / Montana GAP Stewardship dataset. It was updated by the Montana Natural Heritage Program (MTNHP) until 2012. The Montana State Library has updated the dataset with the latest data layers from each agency data source and adjusted the data to the latest CadNSDI Montana, the Public Land Survey System (PLSS). Additional metadata is available for the Managed Areas dataset in the MSL Data List. There are separate map services available for Montana Public Lands and Conservation Easements.
