Current data are available from the Montana Petroleum Tank Release Compensation Board web site. The 1989 Montana Legislature created the Montana Petroleum Tank Release Compensation Board and the Montana Petroleum Tank Release Cleanup Fund. In 1991 the Legislature expanded coverage to certain petroleum storage tanks that were excluded in the 1989 legislation. The Fund was created to assist owners and/or operators of petroleum storage tanks in cleaning up petroleum contamination and compensating third party damages resulting from releases. These data show the location of claims made against the fund. These data were available on the Montana State Library web site from 2005 through 2011 and were updated on a weekly basis. The archive contains copies of the data set that were updated in 2005, 2006, and 2011.
