These data were created by Titan Environmental Services for the Montana Department of Health and Environmental Sciences (DHES) and are the second version of the data, created after review of the first version by DHES. The data were submitted to the State Library as DXF files and were converted to Arc/Info coverage format. The archived data are saved in an ESRI file geodatabase to preserve the coverage annotation. The polygons are all proposed tailings repositories. Lines whose SYMBOL attribute equal to 32 are haul roads, digitized so that their direction points towards the remote repositories. Repositories whose REPOSTRY_ID values are greater than 1000 were removed from maps that were made using this data after September 1995. These data were formerly available from the Montana State Library web site but were removed because they are potentially out of date. Please contact the Federal Superfund Bureau of the Montana Department of Environmental Quality if you want these data so they may tell you if newer or better data are available.
