Montana Department of Revenue cartographers or Local governments were contacted for this information. The MSL acts as the point of contact on these boundaries for editing, schema changes, maintenance, web services and distribution. These boundaries were created based on the best available source data received from the counties: Legal Descriptions, County GIS Files, County Source Maps, or where data sources were not available the Montana Cadastral GIS Data was used. Digital data used as a base layer to create these boundary files were the best available source at the time: Cadastral (parcel lines), Geographic Coordination Data Base (GCDB), National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP) Imagery, and 1:24,000 USGS Topographic Maps. The Montana State Library and the MSDI supports a federated database approach to all MSDI layers. Montana defines a federated approach as a method that supports the integration and utilization of data from multiple data providers, while retaining the primary maintenance responsibility with the provider. Most of Montana's framework data model efforts have adopted a federated approach that leverages multiple data providers and thus multiple data maintainers. It is plausible that errors do exist and we welcome all corrections. If you do have a correction to a school district please contact the Administrative Boundaries Data Coordinator.
