roposal is one of thirteen submitted by the Chairman of the Coeur d’Alene Tribe. The features all lie within the Tribe’s aboriginal territory, but this is the only one in the State of Montana. The Tribe believes the current name, Squaw Creek, is derogatory and should be changed. The new name, Cheawalk Creek, would recognize the Coeur d’Alene word that means “to peel bark off a tree.”
