Abstract Addresses stored in this data set originated from the address records maintained by the Flathead County Plat Room. Since inception of the address improvement program by Flathead County GIS, addresses are assigned through this office. The address is primarily determined by the access to a property and is assigned to a parcel. The spatial location of the address point does not represent the physical location of the building. Address assignments within city limits are issued by the City of Columbia Falls, City of Whitefish, and City of Kalispell and are immediately added to the existing address data.
Purpose This data set was compiled for building and dwelling identification purposes and for future use with 911. This data set is now used extensively by the Flathead County GIS department for mapping and analysis purposes as well as by the Flathead County Sheriff's office with the E911 automated dispatching software.
