| Abstract
|
These data are school districts selected from 2000 U.S. Census Bureau TIGER files. The data contain two feature datasets of elementary district boundaries and a feature dataset for secondary, or high school, district boundaries. The Elementary_2000x layer contains the unedited TIGER boundaries, while the Elementary_2000 layer was edited so that the boundaries in Missoula County match data provided by the Missoula County Surveyor's Office.The data includes the number of students enrolled in each district at the beginning of the 2000 school year.Some school districts are actually unified school districts that operate both elementary and secondary schools. Such districts are included in both the secondary and elementary datasets. The unified districts have the text "K-12 SCHOOLS" in their NAME field, while elementary districts have the word "ELEMENTARY" and secondary districts have the word "HIGH SCHOOL" in their NAMES.As of 2004, the following changes in school districts were known, but not incoorporated into the data: The Kessler district was absorbed by the Helena district. The Bridge, Billup, Belle Creek, Lloyd, Malmborg, and Musselshell districts were not currently operating. The Squirrel Creek district had changed its name to Spring Creek.The data include annotation layers for placing the district names and enrollment numbers on maps.
